Four Pennies in pure copper from The Shire. Each denomination of Shire coinage has 4 variations featuring different trees. This four tree group contains all four possible trees: pine, elm, willow, and oak. The most common coin found in the pocket of a fairly well-to-do Hobbit, it features a tree and the words “One Penny of the Shire, Abode of the Hobbits.” On the reverse, the four directions and quarters of The Shire and “Shire Year,” the date, and “Michel Delving,” the de facto capital of The Shire. Coin text is inscribed in Tengwar. Designed and engraved by Greg Franck-Weiby.
